海子湖大道北段两侧主要以文化设施、商业、住宅用地为主，中段两侧为方特游乐园、楚国八百年城市公园，南段两侧为商业和居住用地 。道路由北至南，规划功能有一定区别，绿化设计需结合周边功能，在保持统一的基础上，展开差异性设计。植物配置首先应遵循生态学原理，根据现场实际情况，合理利用原有场地长势较好的植物，做到最大限度地保留原生态为基础，满足植物与环境在生态适应上的统一，从而科学地配置园林植物，使植物正常生长，并保持一定的稳定性，发挥园林植物的各种功能和效益。
